Imagine being held for no reason. Questioned incessantly. Day and night. Called to account. Suspected. Mistrusted and bombarded with prejudice and suspicion. References of time and space disappear. Questions come from all directions. Thoughts race through a maze that always leads to dead ends - or back where we started the same path not long ago. This is the third degree, where people are lost. This is the interrogation of the stranger, the immigrant, the refugee - and never far away: the suspect, the criminal.
